Questions, answered

Everything people ask before a tattoo or piercing at Satori. Still not sure? Call either shop and ask.

Walk ins and booking

Do you take walk ins?

Yes, and walk ins are encouraged. Both shops take walk ins every day, first come, first served. Flash and smaller pieces are the easiest to do the same day. Bigger custom pieces are best booked ahead so your artist has time to draw them up. Busy nights and flash days can mean a wait, so a quick call helps.

How do I book a tattoo?

Send a request on our booking page or call the shop. Tell us your idea, the size, the placement, and whether you want color or black and grey. The right artist reaches out, talks it through with you, and draws it up. A deposit locks in your date.

Do I need a deposit?

Yes. Appointments are secured with a deposit, and your artist tells you the amount when you book.

Can I pick my artist?

Yes. Book with anyone on the crew by name, or tell us the style you want and we'll point you to the right person. Each artist page shows what they do and how to book with them.

Which shop should I go to?

Both shops tattoo and pierce, and both are open every day. Loveland, on 4th Street, stays open until 10 PM Thursday through Saturday. Greeley, on the 9th Street Plaza, stays open until midnight those nights and is where Ashley does cosmetic tattooing. Pick the one that's closest, or the one that's open when you are.

Do you have flash days or specials?

Yes. The shop runs flash days and specials through the year, like Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Valentine's Day, with ready to go designs that cost less than a custom piece. Watch the shop's Facebook for dates. Those days get busy, so expect a line.

Do you do cover ups?

Yes. Several artists do cover ups, reworks, and touch ups on older tattoos, including work done at other shops. Bring a photo or come in so an artist can see it and tell you what's possible.

Prices

How much does a tattoo cost?

The shop minimum is $100. Above that, most artists charge by the hour, and rates depend on the artist. You get a quote after you talk through the size, placement, and detail. Flash on special days usually costs less.

How much does a piercing cost?

Piercings start at a $30 minimum, unless a special is running. The total depends on the piercing and the jewelry you pick.

How long will my tattoo take?

Small tattoos often take 1 to 2 hours. Larger, detailed pieces can take several hours or more than one session. Your artist gives you a time estimate before you start.

How do I get a quote?

Send a booking request with your idea, size, and placement, or stop by either shop. Your artist looks at the details and gives you a quote before anything starts.

Age and ID

How old do I have to be?

You must be 18 or older to get tattooed or pierced on your own, with a government-issued photo ID that shows your date of birth. Under 18, Colorado law requires a parent's or legal guardian's consent. At Satori, your parent or guardian comes with you and signs the release at the shop.

Can my parent sign for me?

Yes, if you're under 18. Your parent or legal guardian comes with you to the shop and signs the release form before anything starts.

Do you pierce kids?

Yes, with a parent or legal guardian there to sign. Parents bring kids in for first piercings, and our piercers walk them through every step. Call the shop first to check the minimum age for the piercing you have in mind.

Getting ready

How should I prep for my appointment?

Eat a real meal, drink water, get some sleep, and wear clothes that make the spot easy to reach. Skip alcohol beforehand. Bring a government-issued photo ID that shows your date of birth.

Does it hurt?

Some. How much depends on the spot, the size, and you. Tell your artist when you need a break.

What if I change my mind later?

Tattoos are permanent. Laser removal exists, but it usually takes several sessions and may scar, so take your time deciding and talk it through with your artist first.

Healing

How do I take care of a new tattoo?

Keep the bandage on as long as your artist says. Then wash it gently with a mild, fragrance-free soap, pat it dry, and keep a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion on it, about twice a day until it heals. The full steps are on our aftercare page.

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

The surface usually heals in 2 to 4 weeks. Deeper layers of skin can take a few months to settle completely.

When can I swim?

Wait at least 3 weeks, and until it's fully healed. No swimming, saunas, baths, or hot tubs until then.

Is peeling normal?

Yes. Around days 5 to 7 it flakes like a sunburn. Don't pick or scratch, or you can pull ink out.

Piercing and the shop

Do both shops do piercing?

Yes. Karissa Pavia is the head piercer in Loveland, with Lila Harris, and Kyra Williams is the head piercer in Greeley, with Ashley Rice.

Can I walk in for a piercing?

Yes. Both shops take piercing walk ins whenever they're open, first come, first served. Weekend nights get busy, so a quick call helps.

Do you do cosmetic tattooing?

Yes. Ashley Rice does cosmetic tattooing at the Greeley shop: lip blush and full lip color, brows, and areola tattooing after breast surgery. Book with her or call Greeley to ask about options.

Do you do lip blush in Greeley?

Yes. Ashley Rice tattoos lip blush and full lip color at the Greeley shop, from a soft tint to a bold red. See her work on the cosmetic tattooing page and book with her.

Do you tattoo areolas after a mastectomy?

Yes. Ashley Rice tattoos areolas after breast surgery and reconstruction at the Greeley shop. Call the Greeley shop to talk it through before you book.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes. Satori gift cards work at both shops. Pick one up in person at either location.

Are you licensed?

Our Greeley shop is licensed by the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. Larimer County, home of our Loveland shop, is still setting up its body art licensing program. Colorado's body art health rules (6 CCR 1010-22) apply at both shops.
